As a population we are directing frustration with post Covid, inflation, health services, housing and homelessness at the wrong things. And without demanding the opposition parties have a clearer, wiser well thought out plan we will likely punish the current government and vote for change that may or may not understand the solutions but have excelled at pointing out the challenges. Wouldn’t it be great to have the option of supporting strong leadership rather than supporting anger and political posturing?!

On the contrary, new immigrants, including international students, are actually the main reason Canada’s economy did not decline rapidly after the pandemic. However, they have now become scapegoats for the economic recession.

This is because they are a vulnerable group and do not have voting rights. I believe the government is well aware of this.

Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's true! Anyone with eyes to see knows the sun revolves around the earth... it comes up in the east and goes down in the west... It's simple logic that anyone can understand, but most of us know that despite the 'obvious' evidence, it's wrong! Despite the obvious, the Earth revolves around the sun! And still, millions believe only the obvious and quote it as evidence.

Popular opinion has our economy 'obviously' collapsing... immigrants 'obviously' taking jobs from 'Canadians,' and foreign students 'obviously' occupying university places that would otherwise be taken by 'Canadian' students, thereby somehow also 'obviously' driving tuition higher. Popular opinion is mistakenly equated with logic and demands that we ignore any facts the average person can't understand and default to the 'obvious.'

The facts point toward an inflation rate below 2%, and the strongest economy I've seen in my long life. We have higher real wages than we've ever had, and it is coupled with a kinder, gentler, more tolerant society than I've ever experienced!

And still, we demand change—perhaps forgetting that 'Change' goes in both directions—and what is obvious is more often the wrong direction than not! Politicians must offer what their constituents want, and so they 'teach' the electorate what they want by stating the 'obvious' through the media. Opposition parties try to manipulate the people into believing that they are being badly served by the present government and that 'Change' is 'obviously' necessary.

The present facts are that our GDP is the same as Russia's; we have one of the strongest economies in the world; our living standard is better than almost any other nation; and we are close to the top on the freedom scale. We are the envy of the world, and we have only one direction to go...so please—let's allow those professionals who understand the facts to tweak things, but gently.
