Better the problems of growth than decline (Version 3.4)
It’s a good time to break out my old dictum: It’s better to be dealing with the problems of growth than the problems of decline.
That dictum is being tested right now in New Brunswick - with worker shortages, health care wait times - it’s even taking forever to get pets groomed.
Governments and communities need to be geared towards growth. To meet the Premier’s goal of one million people living here by 2040, we need to attract a net 12-13k per year. That means nurses, teachers, driver's test givers, Service NB workers, building permit givers, etc. We need the public sector capacity to support growth and we need the private sector capacity to support growth (construction, pet grooming, dentistry).
We need to address the crime and homelessness that is increasing in certain communities, too.
I prefer it to the alternative.
